Will Xiaomi ‘upgrade’ the Redmi K30 5G display to 144Hz via a software update?

Last month, Redmi, a sub-brand of Xiaomi, launched the duo Redmi K30 and Redmi K30 5G. Both of these phones are smartphones with the cheapest 120Hz refresh rate display in China. Recently, the general manager of Redmi – Mr. Lu Weibing has just confirmed that the company has successfully tested the 144Hz screen on Redmi K30 5G.

Specifically, Weibing posted a video on Weibo to prove that the 120Hz screen of the Redmi K30 5G can completely display at a higher than normal scanning frequency of 144Hz. Notably, support for the 144Hz refresh rate can be added through software updates.

In June last year, a member of the MIUI forum also developed a mod that allows the 60Hz screen of Mi 9 to display at a higher refresh rate of 84Hz. Therefore, it is likely that Redmi will launch an update to support 144Hz refresh rate for the screen of Redmi K30 5G in the near future.

The 120Hz screen of the Redmi K30 5G is showing at a higher 144Hz refresh rate than usual.

Lu Weibing shared the video at a time when major companies like Samsung and OnePlus are preparing to launch new flagships, such as the Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8, with 120Hz refresh rates.

In addition, his Weibo post appeared just hours after the president of Nubia confirmed that the upcoming 5G Red Magic will have a 144Hz screen. Obviously, it seems that we will see many manufacturers launch new smartphones with higher frequency scanning screens this year.
