Volibear After being reworked to become a fairly powerful general, this bear god is trusted by many teams around the world with his powerful general and direct control ability. Volibear can be used in both top and jungle, allowing professional teams to “turn cards” according to the game situation to gain advantage in the early game.
On the way to build with Volibear, there are many styles that have been applied to this general, among them, the Three Hop Swords are probably used most often by professional gamers. Even FlyQuest’s Solo player adopted this style in the opening match of the group stage Worlds 2020 with Top Esports, this match just ended a few hours ago.
Although the defeat of the North American representative is understandable, Volibear’s approach in that match was criticized by the general’s father, Riot Lutzburg.
Riot Lutzburg – the designer of Volibear remake – thinks Tam Hop Kiem is the wrong way to dress
Riot Lutzburg: “I think the Three Matched Swords for Volibear was a big mistake when it came to him (FlyQuest Solo only) so much poke again. Up to full resistance with lots of armor will help Volibear increase strength better in the middle of the game. He had passed his power threshold and now there is no backup plan for Volibear.
FlyQuest is only Volibear as a champion that can stand in the front row, he has to put on support to protect his teammates. Otherwise Volibear is extremely weak in such 5v5 situations.
Gamer: “It seems that FlyQuest doesn’t even have any armor items.”
Riot Lutzburg: “The enemy has 4 physical damage generals, 1 assassin dealing magic damage, it’s easy for him to withstand multiple armor”.
Despite trying to build armor, Tam Hop Kiem made Solo extremely weak and easy to get caught in the middle of the match
Of course we can justify Solo that he needs damage in order to get better split push, not losing too much compared to 369’s Camille. Riot Lutzburg is perfectly reasonable, FlyQuest takes too much damage from Jhin, Syndra and Lillia, but they don’t have the space to move and do damage comfortably.
Ignar’s pull was not enough and they needed a Volibear that was “buffalo” and resilient for his teammates. However, a Three Hop Sword Volibear is only strong in hand-to-hand combat or split-push, and its tower-fighting ability is extremely weak. It is understandable that Solo was killed so quickly that his teammates could not deal damage comfortably.
Of course this didn’t mean that Volibear’s tank build would help FlyQuest win that match. They are more likely to still lose to Top Esports but at least they will not fall into such a passive position as in the last match. Perhaps the entrance to the Three Hop Swords was really strong for Volibear, but in a particular fighting game that required the bear god to put up with the team, that item was an inadequate thing.
