Dogs are inherently loyal friends of humans, and sometimes they even play hero roles, saving us from critical situations. Recently, a dog named Heidi, of the German Shepherd breed, swam the sea for 11 hours in search of help for his drowning owner.
Specifically, the above incident occurred in Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia on February 20. While working at sea, a fisherman discovered a dog Heidi struggling between many debris boats, with many accessories such as gas tanks, diving costumes or bait boxes. Realizing that someone was in trouble, the fisherman immediately contacted the local police force to search and rescue Heidi’s owner.

Queensland police sent a four-member team, equipped with high-class Marine Safety Queensland jets, to mobilize a Rescue 500 helicopter to assist in the search. In addition, rescue teams such as Volunteer Marine Coast Guard and Volunteer Marine Rescue quickly joined. Not long after, they found Heidi’s owner clinging to a 4.1-meter overturned boat and trying to keep themselves from sinking into the water.
Heidi and his owner had an accident while walking at sea.
The unidentified 63-year-old victim said his boat abruptly shut down midway the night before and gradually sank. By the time he was rescued by the police, he had been at sea for about 15 hours, trying to search for rescue but to no avail. He also added Heidi probably swam continuously for about 11 hours before meeting the kind fisherman.
Senior officer Jay Bairstow said: “We hope this incident will be a safe lesson for everyone who regularly sets sail. Always be fully prepared, planning for the worst case. In addition, they need to wear life jackets when they go to the sea, carefully check the safety equipment, including EPIRB (radio incident buoys). Fortunately, no damage has been done to the person involved in this incident”.
The boat was almost swallowed whole by the water when rescuers were at the scene.
On Heidi’s side, the dog was taken to the vet shortly after for a general health check. After about half a day of rest, Heidi has completely recovered and was able to reunite with his employer. Queensland police also praised the dog and considered it a member of the rescue team that day.

This is also not the first time this 4-legged friend saved the owner from accidents at sea. Earlier, NBC reported on an even more dangerous incident that happened to James White in California, USA. A fishing enthusiast, he often travels to Bodega Bay to satisfy his hobby.
But this time, he was surprised when he caught a 7 shark with flat head 180 cm long, a dangerous shark. After about 10 minutes of struggling, he also pulled it ashore and thought everything was safe. However, this stubborn fish refused to give in, and struggled to regain his freedom, even biting James’s calf even though he was still on land.
The brave pitbull dog fought with the shark to save his owner.
James’s pitbull dog, Darby, upon hearing his master’s scream immediately rushed out the car window and rushed to the rescue. With a strong jaw, Darby had a true “fight” with this shark and easily won for the advantage on land. Afterwards, James released the shark back to the ocean, ending his bad day.
