On November 8, the Virgin Hyperloop Company has tested the first high-speed passenger train using Hyperloop technology in the Nevada desert (USA). The two passengers on board were Josh Giegel, chief technology officer at Virgin Hyperloop, and Sara Luchian, director of customer experience. Both were seated in a 2-seater train compartment.

It is known that the Virgin Hyperloop system uses magnetic buffer technology, quite similar to the technology used for high-speed train projects in Japan and Germany. The magnet’s opposite poles will help the train hover above the track, while the opposite poles of the magnet will pull the train forward.

Test results show that the Virgin Hyperloop’s high-speed train compartment only takes 15 seconds to complete a 500m long test distance, reaching a speed of about 160km / h. According to Virgin Hyperloop, the test route is only 500 meters long, making the ship not reach maximum speed. However, the company still considers this a big milestone to be reached, before proceeding to commercialize Hyperloop technology.

In the future, Virgin Hyperloop plans to build multiple train lines connecting major cities, with each ship able to carry 25-30 people. Its ambition is to carry tens of thousands of passengers per hour. However, financial problems are currently a barrier for Virgin Hyperloop. The company is currently calling for investment to carry out the construction of a 10km test route in West Virginia, worth $ 500 million. If the testing is completed on schedule, Virgin Hyperloop will begin commercialization by 2026.
