Citing Store Intelligence data, Sensor Tower said that the amount of user spending in the App Store, subscribing to and purchasing one-time apps on the App Store increased to $ 19 billion, up 31% year-on-year .
On the other hand, Google’s Play Store grew only 34% year-on-year and reached $ 10.3 billion in revenue.
In general, app buyers spent 32% more than the amount spent in Q3 / 2019 of $ 22.2 billion. In addition, installs from the two app stores also increased by 23.3%, to 36.5 billion.
As usual, the App Store’s massive sales don’t mean it has the most downloads. Specifically, in Q3 / 2020, downloads on the App Store increased by 2.5% and was estimated at 8.2 billion downloads. While the Play Store boomed with 28.3 billion app downloads, an increase of 31% over the same period last year. Despite a spike in first-time app downloads, Android lags far behind iOS as a moneymaker.
Sensor Tower states that the Covid-19 epidemic is indirectly positively impacting the app market as more people stay at home and spend more time on mobile apps. This trend has been evident since the end of Q2.
Currently the top application of the social networking application group is TikTok. Behind are YouTube, Tinder, Tencent Video, Disney +. In addition, TikTok also took the lead in installs, outperforming Facebook, Zoom, WhatsApp and Instagram.
Game apps saw similar growth during the quarter, with spending on both stores up 26.7% to $ 20.9 billion. The App Store leads this category and generates $ 12.4 billion in app revenue, up 24% from the same period last year. Google Play Store grossed $ 8.5 billion, up 30.8% year on year.
In fact, the Sensor Tower report is only an estimate of sales. On the Apple side, it rarely shares App Store stats. In June, a study highlighted the App Store generated more than $ 500 billion in commercial value in 2019.
