In addition to wireless headphones, portable speakers have been the indomitable object of many people before. This dish may not be used much, but it is extremely useful because it can be used at home and to play.
This New Year, if you do not have a new speaker with little demand, only about 500,000 VND, you can still choose for yourself a small and beautiful portable speaker, such as LG XBoom Go PN1 or Sony SRS XB01 for example.
LG’s speaker has just been released, but it is currently getting a very strong discount, only about 300,000 VND online (original price 690,000 VND). As for Sony’s products, it has been sold for a long time, the original price is VND 790,000, but now many places also reduce it to about 400,000 – 500,000 VND.
Design: Each speaker 1 looks, but 10 inch less than 10
LG XBoom Go PN1 is quite large in size compared to the 1.5 inch driver inside (almost equivalent to JBL Go 3), while Sony’s XB01 is much more compact and lighter despite the same driver size. Sony’s design is also more strange, there are many colors to choose from, while the PN1 has only 1 purple blue.
Sony XB01 and LG XBoom Go PN1.
In return, the material and machining quality of PN1 are all better than Sony’s speakers made of hard plastic and rubber. The feeling of holding up feels luxurious and worth the money, and Sony’s speakers are only nicer when taking photos.
LG XBoom Go PN1 shell material feels “smooth luxury” than Sony XB01.
Because the PN1’s hanger is hard and less flexible, I have removed it completely from the speaker for tidy.
Features: Almost similar, PN1 has special advantages
Both models feature a full-length 1.5 inch driver and passive woofers. The difference is that the PN1 woofer is on the front, while Sony’s is on the back. The outer shell is IPX5 waterproof, which means it’s still okay if it gets splashed or used in the rain (can’t be submerged).
The basic features of both speakers are almost identical. The original price is only 100,000 VND, but the sale price is a whole lot.
The two speakers have a capacity of 3W, have a microphone for hands-free calling, have a convenient hook design and include a 3.5mm aux input that has now been neglected on most new bluetooth speakers. Two small differences are that PN1 uses Bluetooth 5.0 with a modern USB-C charging port, while the XB01 is still Bluetooth 4.2 and the old microUSB pin.
PN1 uses a USB-C charging port that is more convenient and trendy than the XB01.
In addition, despite being the cheapest speaker line, LG is still equipped with the pairing function of LG with other speakers to create a stereo system. Meanwhile, Sony only integrates this feature into the higher-end line XB10 and XB12 and above, while the youngest XB01 is ignored.
Sound quality: Sony is quite “smooth”, but loses one level to LG
The sound quality of the XB01 can be said to be “inverted V-shape”, focusing on the mid range, especially when the volume is turned on low to medium. Meanwhile, PN1 proved more balanced at all volume ranges. Therefore, XB01 has the advantage of listening to lyrical music, soft music when vocals are exalted, soft and sweet, while PN1 can weigh more genres, even if you play electronic music, you still cannot “appreciate”. like JBL models.
XB01 is only suitable for listening to light, lyrical music because the vocals are very smooth, but PN1 is more balanced, suitable for more genres.
The big minus point of Sony XB01 is probably at a much lower volume than expected, only about 80 – 90% of the PN1 despite the same capacity. At a volume below 70%, the bass on the XB01 is also very faint, even “flat”, forced to open up completely to sound balanced.
Battery: Sony has a point, but the difference is not much
At 50% volume, Sony’s speakers can hear 6 hours in a row, while for LG it’s 5 hours. If at max volume, XB01 can also use a little longer but not significantly. Charging time of both is very long, about 3-4 hours to full.
So which speaker line to choose?
Will you choose the balanced sound quality of the LG XBoom Go PN1 or the ultra-compact, convenient design of the Sony XB01?
In a fair comparison, it is clear that the LG XBoom Go PN1 “wins” in most categories, plus the price that LG is “selling blood” on the internet, it is clear that this is not a bad choice. However, if you still like the brand and sound quality of Sony, you can consider XB01, or spend a few hundred thousand more looking to buy XB10 or XB12, the price is higher but the quality is definitely far beyond PN1.
In addition, there are some other noteworthy new models in the segment below 1 million are JBL Go 3 (VND 990,000), LG XBoom Go PL2 (VND 690,000 – sale price). Or if you need a cheaper price, there is JBL Go 2 (about 500,000 VND) or Xiaomi Squarebox (about 400,000 VND) and Xiaomi Outdoor Speaker 2019 (about 600,000 VND).
