Most recently, Shokei University students in Kumamoto prefecture have just announced that bronze statue of Luffy Located in front of the Kumamoto prefectural office is estimated to have helped the prefecture’s economy grow 2.6 billion yen a year.
The statue of Luffy was officially erected in November 2018 for 13 million yen, a tribute gift that Kumamoto prefecture gives to the author Eiichiro Oda. This is to thank him for his great contribution and support to his homeland following the great earthquake of 2016.

Eight more statues of the Straw Hat crew will also be erected at other locations in the province. Statue of Sanji (Masaki town) and Usopp (Aso city) statue were inaugurated in December 2019.
The survey was conducted four times by 66 students from Shokei University’s Department of Modern Culture, from October 2019 to January 2020, with visitors visiting the statue. They covered the cost of food and accommodation during the trip and finally estimated the number of visitors a year to admire the statue was 55,121. The estimated figure and economic value are 2,671,970,000 yen.

Student Maki Iwata, 20 years old who participated in the survey, said: “I was surprised that the economy was only 2.6 billion yen.” Ruka Kajiwara, 21, also participated in the survey expecting: “I think when the statues of the rest of the members are inaugurated, the effect will be even bigger than now”.
