After about 2 months of Tet holiday and enjoying the success coming from the first movie season, The Witcher season 2 has officially shot in the UK recently. Besides the return of the main cast including Henry Cavill (Geralt), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri) and Joey Batey (Jaskier), the following season also welcomed many new names. Among them is the most notable is Kristofer Hivju – who participated in the Game of Thrones in the role of “salt granary” Tormund Giantsbane.
Kristofer Hivju will continue his fantasy journey in The Witcher season 2
Information Kristofer joined The Witcher family has been on the Internet for about 2 months before director Stephen Surjik accidentally tagged him, along with Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra, on Instagram. Although he quickly removed it shortly after, he could not avoid the professional scrutiny from the online community, who was extremely “witch” at the time.
This past Friday, Netflix officially confirmed this information, and also revealed that Kristofer Hivju will take on the role of Nivellen, a familiar character in the novel version.
Kristofer will play one of the very famous characters in the novel.
Here is spoiler information about Nivellen as well as some subsequent events in The Witcher – the book version. Of course, Netflix will still have a little adjustment when adapting to the small screen, but readers should consider before reading. If you do not want, you can drag to the end of the article to continue updating information about the new cast of The Witcher season 2.
Geralt first met Nivellen in the short story Grain of Truth, after he discovered many corpses and tracked down to an old mansion. At first, Nivellen had found all ways to intimidate the witcher to flee. But a veteran like Geralt, who is almost emotionless because of the side effects of the mutation, is not easy to panic at these “tricks”.
Finally, Nivellen accepts to share with Geralt about his unhappiness. In a nutshell: This guy got hit with an evil curse, turning him into a hideous monster. Despite all the ways for many years, but Nivellen still can not solve that curse.
Geralt helped Nivellen lift the evil curse in the novel.
In the course of her discovery, Geralt learned that Nivellen had lived with many women in his own mansion, as part of a plan to lift the curse. Though it did not work, Nivellen did not harm the women, even giving them a lot of money when they left. However, when the witcher asked about the woman living with Nivellen at the present time, he refused to answer.
With no other option, Geralt wanders into the woods near the mansion by himself to find clues, and finds Vereena – Nivellen’s contemporary lover. Vereena is actually Bruxa, a very dangerous form of vampire in the witcher universe, forcing Geralt to take action to protect himself. Finally, thanks to the love (and a little blood) of Vereena, Nivellen’s curse was also completely lifted.
End of spoiler.
Geralt and Nivellen had very interesting dialogs in the novel version, which made fans look forward to the moment when Henry Cavill and Kristofer Hivju officially met on the small screen.
Back to the main issue, besides Kristofer Hivju, The Witcher season 2 also welcomed many new roles including:
– Yasen Atour – witcher Coen, who helped train Ciri at Kaer Morhen.
– Paul Bullion – witcher Lambert (You can read more at this article).
– Thue Ersted Rasmussen (who will be in the Fast and Furious 9 blockbuster) – witcher Eskel, another teammate of Geralt and Lambert, also of the Wolf school.
– Aisha Fabienne Ross – Lydia, the assistant witch of Vilgefortz.
– Mecia Simson – Francesca, the witch and Queen of the elf race
– Agnes Bjorn – Vereena, lover of Nivellen.
It is worth noting that the name Vesemir does not appear in this list. According to what was shown in the first season, the second season will be adapted from the events in Blood of Elves. This means that Vesemir will play an extremely important role in both the story and Ciri’s development. It is likely that this is a surprise that Netflix is trying to “throw in”, waiting until the last minute to reveal.
The Witcher season 2 will officially air in 2021, with no specific time has been set.
