Despite being judged by experts that the new LiDAR sensor on the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max is a wish without a specific app, Apple is showing how useful this new sensor will be.
Thanks to this new LiDAR sensor, you can quickly measure a person’s height while standing using an iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Apple even claims that you can measure the height of someone sitting in a chair.
Here’s how you use the feature:
Turn on the Measure feature and position the iPhone so that the person you want to measure is in the frame on the screen, from head to toe.
– Then, a line will appear on the top of the head of the person to be measured (from the hair or hat that person is wearing) and the length of this line is the person’s height.
If you want to save this parameter, click the shutter button at the bottom right of the screen and then you can choose either Save to Photos or Save to Files.
More than just a fun feature, it will be a very useful feature for the apparel industry. When it is possible to accurately measure a person’s height, the LiDAR sensors on the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max can completely measure the user’s measurements accurately.
If an online clothing app takes advantage of this feature, it can accurately measure the user’s measurements and find the right clothes directly on the phone without ever going to the store.
This feature will be even more important as the Covid-19 pandemic is causing more shopping to happen online instead of going to the store. Certainly the fashion industry is not out of this trend, and the new feature on the iPhone 12 Pro could help solve one of the biggest challenges of buying clothes online today.
Don’t wait until the LiDAR sensor appears on the iPhone, last year Nike launched a “Nike Fit” app, which allows users to measure foot sizes to find the right shoe for them. With the LiDAR sensor, Apple is taking this possibility even further.
Not only do you measure the height of the user, with the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max cameras, you can also measure the dimensions of furniture and other static objects through the Ruler feature.
On devices like Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 +, S20 Ultra, S10 5G and Note10 +, which are equipped with 3D Depth camera, you can also measure the size or volume of stationary objects using the Quick Measure feature. However, this application does not automatically measure someone’s height, but has to go through some other manual operations.
