People still know Foreign Trade University as the cradle of beauty queen, famous people, or successful business people. But few people know, there is a talented calligraphy artist graduated from this school, that is Dao Huy Hoang.
Nearly 10 years of pursuing a calligraphy, Hoang holds in hand a series of remarkable achievements such as: Master in the art of calligraphy in Vietnam, having taught in 12 countries around the world, Pen World magazine and many papers Attention from international press …
Calligraphy means good writing. But according to Hoang’s explanation, more than beautiful words, it is the art of harmoniously combining writing and decoration (drawing, inlaid with gold, mosaic …) related to the words. Hoang officially fell in love with the calligraphy when he was a freshman, but in fact his love for this subject was accidentally cultivated and nurtured by his grandfather since childhood.
Hoang said that his grandfather was from the old generation, fluent in both Sino-Nom, French and national language. He has many professions, from jeweler, medicine dispenser, to teacher. So he kept in the house a lot of manuscripts related to recipes for making medicines, how to raise animals, growing plants, …
At that time, Hoang’s brother, who was a calm person, often read Kieu’s tales and literature while he was lulled to sleep in a hammock. As for him, he is hyperactive and mischievous, so he put in a number of frameworks such as writing practice, making crafts, binding books … Gradually, his love for the letters seeped in Hoang during his school days, and he has always preferred to write by hand over writing text on the computer.
By the time he went to university, Hoang began to seriously study the art of writing. In the early days, like walking in the dark without a flashlight, Hoang had to grop for himself to watch online videos, then buy pens and write along. He also works in many outside jobs such as tutor, translator, … to afford the purchase of necessary study tools.
“Of course the most difficult was not money, but in Vietnam at that time, nothing was available: No schools, no books, teachers, groups … I just went online to study, anywhere Understand, the email asked a few foreigners, some people feel annoyed, others still open up and answer.
Fortunately, my English is good so I read the document myself. Then I went to Instagram to interact with like-minded people. If I could not share with Vietnamese friends, I could share them with foreign friends “, Hoang said.
Hoang remembers the first money he earned from this passion around his second year at university. Hoang designed the signature and successfully posted it on a foreign website for freelancers. That amount is only about 5 USD, after subtracting all kinds of expenses Hoang received about 3 USD. The amount is small but enough to motivate him on his own special journey.
