Be the most memorable villain of Dragon Ball Z, Frieza have shown the power to shock his planet in intense battles with Goku and other warriors. This makes us wonder why bad guys always have great power. Frieza’s appearance in the Tournament of Power Dragon Ball Super is even loved by fans.
Here are 5 reasons why Frieza is the best villain!
5. Be the first major villain unrelated to Earth
Before Frieza appeared, all of Goku’s opponents had a close relationship with the Earth: Pilaf, Red Ribbon Army, Tien, … They were all people who grew up on the planet Earth, Although King Piccolo is a Namekian, he has been with Earth since ancient times.
Frieza, on the other hand, never set foot on Earth until after his defeat on Namek. Other opponents like Vegeta, Raditz and Nappa went directly to Earth and brought the fight to Goku. They fight on familiar terrain. The fact that Frieza and Goku fight in an unfamiliar world not only represents Frieza’s difference, but also makes viewers realize that the Dragon Ball world is bigger than we thought.
4. Causing Goku to awaken to Super Saiyan state
If Goku doesn’t transform into Super Saiyan, Frieza will surely kill him. Since then, the Super Saiyan transformation has become a major element of the series, not to mention the first time Goku turns Super Saiyan into one of the best scenes in all the anime. Only someone as brutal as Frieza can bring Goku to such a new level of power.
3. Return from the dead twice
Most people in Dragon Ball have died at least once, and the dragon balls are the factors that keep the characters from dying too long. But this is not the case with the villains. Great, the bad guys in Dragon Ball died after their initial defeat, but Frieza was an exception.
Frieza’s comeback was such a big deal, that even his first revival was even made into a movie. After Goku killed Frieza, he was revived again by helping Universe 7 win the Tournament of Power. Frieza is the only villain brought back twice, proving that true legends never die.
2. There are interesting power upgrade transformations
Certainly the transformation of characters to increase strength is an attractive point of the Dragon Ball series. Take Majin Buu as an example, in addition to Fat Buu, Super Buu and Kid Buu, we can also count Evil Buu, along with Super Buu versions after he absorbed many powerful warriors.
While most fans may think that Kid Buu is the strongest form of the Majin, it is actually Super Buu after absorbing Gohan. The power at that time was far beyond the original form, though it appeared earlier than Kid Buu.
Yet Frieza has six completely different appearances (except for Mecha Frieza), more than Cell (only 3 times Cell), and he even explains how strong they are on Namek, making every form of Frieza becomes fascinating.
1. Set up Dragon Ball
Arguably Bulma has started everything in the series, because without her task of collecting all seven of her dragon balls, she wouldn’t meet Goku. But the truth is she will never meet Goku, if not Frieza is the reason why Goku appeared on Earth to start the story.
Come to think of it, Frieza without planning to destroy the planet Vegeta, Bardock and Gine will have no intention of sending Goku to Earth. In fact, the Earth may have been taken by the Red Ribbon Army rather than Frieza. He also indirectly led Goku to save the planet many times.
