Each Pokemon in the video game has a different male-female ratio. There are some Pokemon that are all male, such as Taurus, while others like Magnemite have no gender.

For the Squirtle family, the ratio is seven males – one female. This means that it takes eight Squirtle to have one child. This greatly affects the maintenance of the Squirtle species, because Pokemon mate to give birth, having too few Squirtles will make it difficult to produce the perfect new generation of Squirtle.

In the anime we do not see Ash’s Squirtle evolve, so many viewers are curious as to how Squirtle’s evolution will turn out? And the answer is here, Mega Blastoise – the strongest water-type Pokemon.

Mega Blastoise is Squirtle’s last evolved form, possessing a special, almost invincible attack stats among water-type Pokemon. Of course, it’s not the strongest Pokemon, because compared to some legendary Pokemon, such as Kyogre, Mega Blastoise is still a notch below. However, it is only inferior to the legendary Pokemon only. Who would have thought an adorable Squirtle would evolve into such a blistering Mega Blastoise.

The current generation of Super Smash Bros. games for both 3DS and Wii U has a title board that comes with Squirtle’s lovely face. This title table describes a bit of the game’s character using the slang of English-speaking regions.

In the US version, it described Squirtle as “so gosh-darn adorable”. This is not a common phrase in many English-speaking countries, so in the PAL version in the UK and Australia, this paragraph is replaced by “so flipping adorable”. This change may seem insignificant, but Nintendo is not unreasonably careful. Mario Party 8 has been recalled in the UK for using the word “spastic” in the game, a harmless word in the US but considered deeply offensive in the UK. In fact, it would be much simpler if Super Smash Bros didn’t use slang.

11. Squirtle was born with a soft shell

Squirtle is completely inspired by real-world turtles. In fact, there are some species of soft shells, and newborn sea turtles also have soft shells. Freshwater turtles tend to have a harder shell than sea turtles at birth, so it is likely that Squirtle originated from sea turtles.

According to the Pokemon legend, all Pokemon are born from eggs, which inadvertently coincides with the fact that turtles are also born from eggs. However, as Squirtle evolved, became gigantic and grew two more cannons on its back, there was no creature corresponding to this appearance, let alone the turtle.
