With only four months left, the 2020 E3 2020 – the world’s largest gaming and technology event that brings together many of the world’s largest publishers and developers in Los Angeles – will be officially opened. With 2020 being the year marking the next generation of consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X, this is also the 25th anniversary of E3 when it was first reorganized in California. Therefore, E3 2020 will certainly have many important changes in its size and organization.
The Dark Side of E3 2020
Despite being the biggest gaming event of the year, the number of E3 attendees in the last 2 years has tended to decline with a number under consideration. This largely comes from the organization and ticketing of ESA. Another bad news is that the ESA event contract with the Los Angeles Convention Center will end in 2023, causing a major obstacle for the organizers to find a new terminal for this event. Not only that, E3 2019 also witnessed the accidental exposure of ESA by 2000 journalists on its website and this also caused many disagreements with the media of the event.
Another major problem that ESA is “worried” is that major game publishers are rushing to start the event. In 2013, Nintendo stopped hosting online press conferences to switch to online conferencing to introduce its products to players. And ever since then, Nintendo has always maintained its presence at this event. However, some big names have officially left the event and organized their own events. The beginning of this trend is EA leaving E3 in 2016 and holding EA Play separately during E3. After that, Sony officially withdrew from the event last year and continued to not participate in this year. This continues to leave large gaps that affect the reputation of the event.
Highlights Of E3 2020
Despite many defects, E3 2020 is still shaping up to be one of the most important gaming events of the year. Companies that have confirmed to appear at E3 2020 include Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Bethesda and Square Enix. But the company has always appeared in important E3 press conferences with many interesting products and trailers promising to attract viewers. In addition, other companies that are likely to appear in E3 2020 include Take – Two, Capcom, Sega, Bandai Namco and WB Games.
With Sony continuing to withdraw from the E3 2020, the Xbox Series X will have more “ground” at E3 and will attract more attention from both participants and the press. In the past, E3 marked the beginning of the console generation because this is where the big boys showcased new products, PS4 and Xbox One, and introduced their starting games. Nonetheless, third-party companies will play an important role in marketing for PS5 and will explain in part why Sony proposed to withdraw the event. In addition, they will also introduce gamers many interesting products such as the rumor about Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok from Ubisoft house during the past time. Event E3 2020 will reorganize the Los Angeles Convention Center from 9 to 11 on June 6.
