As you all know, the Will prize Eisner awarded for creative achievements in the US comic field, and its importance is sometimes compared to the Oscars for comic books. This award first appeared in 1988, creating as a replacement for the Kirby Award – a prize also for the comic field was discontinued after 1987.
This award takes the name of the writer, painter Will Eisner – who pioneered the comics industry in the US. He was frequently an important guest to attend the awards ceremony until his death in 2005.
Appointing up again, noble award Eisner 2020 announced the list of award nominations last week.
Will any series become the owners of the Eisner 2020?
first. IMMORTAL HULK and the unexpected phenomenon called DOOM DOCTOR
Marvel This year it received more nominations in product categories than in individual categories. The series DAREDEVIL of Chip Zdarsky and one of Marvel’s recent comic book titles – Al Ewing’s IMMORTAL HULK – both received nominations in Best Continuing Series, while Christopher Cantwell’s DOCTOR DOOM became representative. Its only in the Best New Series category.
IMMORTAL HULK is one of the top rated series in the current Marvel Comics series.
Chip Zdarsky (DAREDEVIL) & G. Willow Wilson (MS. MARVEL) also received nominations in Best Writer category, while DAREDEVIL cover artist Julian Totino Tedesco received Best Cover Artist nominations.
2. THE DREAMING and the spectacular return of writer Brian Michal Bendis
HARLEY QUINN: BREAKING GLASS and THE DREAMING are two hits of DC in the last year. While HARLEY QUINN: BREAKING GLASS received 3 nominations in 3 categories Best Publication for Teens, Best Writer (Mariko Tamaki) & Best Penciller / Inker (Steve Pugh), THE DREAMING received 2 nominations for Best Continuing Series & Best Penciller / Inker (Bilquis Evely).
HARLEY QUINN: BREAKING GLASS suddenly received up to 3 nominations.
Unsurprisingly, THE DREAMING has been rated by the majority of fans and experts as one of the best DC Comics series of the past year.
One of the surprises this year is the return of “The Great” Brian Michael Bendis with two series COVER & NAOMI. Turning around comics artists becoming agents, COVER received three nominations for Best Graphic Album – Reprint & Best Painter / Multimedia Artist and Best Cover Artist (David Mack). NAOMI, the series that introduces the latest young superhero from the DC universe, receives a nomination for the Best Limited Series.
NAOMI by Brian Michael Bendis. This is a series that is relatively appreciated by professionals.
3. Image, Dark Horse, … & bright indie candidates in 2020
Besides Marvel & DC, the remaining indie comics companies are no less competitive with some of the heavy contenders such as G. Willow Wilson & Christian Ward’s INVISIBLE KINGDOM (Dark Horse) with 4 nominations, SOBEK (Shortbox) by James Stokoe with 3 nominations, CRIMINAL (Image) by Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips with 2 nominations (one for BAD WEEKEND).
INVISIBLE KINGDOM shows that you are a relatively heavy opponent, when you have a new strange storyline and extremely beautiful, polished drawings, that readers cannot take their eyes off.
Some hits of the year such as ONCE & FUTURE by Kieron Gillen & Dan Mora, SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN by James Tynion IV & Werther Dell’Edera (BOOM! Studios) or UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY by Scott Snyder, Charles Soule, Giuseppe Camuncoli & Daniele Orlandini (Image) received a nomination in the Best New Series category.

GOKUSHUFUDOU is an extremely worth reading manga. Unsurprisingly, it is one of the few Asian series to receive nominations in two categories of the Eisner Awards.
